NEW YORK, Nov. 5 (TodayViralUSA) — The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged more than 1,500 points on Wednesday, its best day in more than a year and a half, as Wall Street cheered a decisive outcome in the midterm elections and a steep drop in oil prices.

The blue-chip index jumped 1,569.40 points, or 3.03%, to close at 53,356.12, according to CNBC. It was the Dow’s best session since April 9, 2025, the day President Donald Trump paused his so-called reciprocal tariffs, and its first close above 53,000 since Sept. 8. The S&P 500 rose 1.58% to 7,688.62 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.44% to 25,736.51.

Uncertainty lifts, oil sinks

Strategists said the clear-cut Democratic victory, and Trump’s statements that he would accept the results and work with the new majorities, removed a layer of political risk that had weighed on markets heading into Election Day.

The rally gained momentum after U.S. crude fell more than 8% as Vice President JD Vance blamed the war with Iran for Republicans’ losses, raising expectations of pressure to end the conflict. “There’s just going to be even more pressure to end the war,” Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at One Point BFG Wealth Partners, told CNBC.

“Still more uncertainty looms, but one thing is certain, there will be gridlock and historically this is good for the market,” said Jay Woods, chief market strategist at Freedom Capital Markets.

Consumer stocks lead, energy lags

Nine of the S&P 500’s 11 sectors finished higher, led by consumer discretionary, up 4.27%, and financials, up 3.46%, Xinhua reported. Energy fell 4.77% as oil slid, and industrials lost 1.11%.

Apple rose about 6% to an all-time high of $354.33, lifting its market value above $5.12 trillion, as investors bet a slowdown in data center construction could ease pressure on memory chip prices, CNBC said. Walmart gained 3% and Bank of America rose about 4%.

Not everything rallied. Nvidia fell about 3%, and shares of AI cloud provider CoreWeave and Elon Musk’s Texas-based SpaceX also declined on concerns that Democratic wins, including Gina Hinojosa’s victory in the Texas governor’s race, could slow the build-out of data centers. Hinojosa has called for a moratorium on new data centers in the state.

Jobs data steady

On the economic front, payroll processor ADP said private employers added 86,000 jobs in October, matching September’s revised total and slightly ahead of economists’ expectations.
