DENVER, Oct. 11 (TodayViralUSA) — Election officials in Colorado and Washington state have issued public warnings about inaccurate voting information circulated by America PAC, the super PAC backed by Elon Musk, after text messages told Colorado voters to “confirm” a ballot request that state law does not require.
According to reporting by CNN, messages sent last week told recipients: “Your ballot request is in. Confirm now where and when to return it.” In Colorado, every active registered voter automatically receives a mail ballot — no separate request is needed — and the wording sparked calls and emails to county clerks from voters worried someone had submitted paperwork in their name.
“People were like, ‘Wait a second. I didn’t submit that request. Is something fishy going on?’” said Carly Koppes, the Republican election chief in Weld County, north of Denver.
Secretaries of state urge official channels
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, called the messaging “misleading” and urged residents to rely on her office and county clerks for trusted election information. Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs similarly warned voters away from VoteSafe.org, the PAC-linked site that collects phone numbers and emails for follow-up contact and itself discloses that third-party voting information “may not necessarily be accurate.”
“Instead of relying on a website that itself warns its voting information may not be accurate, get accurate and timely information directly from your state and local election offices,” Hobbs’ office said.
Adams County election chief Josh Zygielbaum said roughly a dozen voters called about the texts — a volume he treats as a signal of wider confusion. America PAC has reported more than $228,000 in spending to benefit freshman GOP Rep. Gabe Evans in a toss-up House race covering parts of those counties.
Heavy midterm spending
Musk, who spent nearly $300 million to help elect Trump and Republicans in 2024, has disclosed about $50 million to America PAC this cycle plus roughly $40 million to other Republican-aligned committees. As of Friday, the PAC had reported nearly $40 million in independent expenditures, with more than $31 million aimed at Senate races, led by Texas.
America PAC did not answer CNN’s questions about the Colorado texts. On X, the group accused Washington officials of trying to “suppress” voter registration. Republican digital strategist Eric Wilson called the outreach “pretty standard get-out-the-vote tactics” and argued campaigns often fill gaps left by official voter-education tools.
Officials emphasized that third-party turnout groups are common, but said inaccurate descriptions of how mail ballots work can undermine trust. Voters who receive unexpected ballot texts are being advised to verify details with their local election office before responding or sharing personal data.
