ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 28 (TodayViralUSA) — The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday night to close out the series four games to one and end a wait that stretched across the franchise’s entire history.
The title is Milwaukee’s first World Series crown since the 1957 Braves, and it came in the Brewers’ 57th season in the city and their first trip to the Fall Classic in 44 years.
Misiorowski sets the tone
Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings at Tropicana Field before a right calf cramp forced him out in the sixth. He was credited with the win.
Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt drove in two runs. He set a World Series rookie record with hits in his fifth and sixth consecutive plate appearances, then added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning that stretched the lead to 4-0. The Milwaukee bullpen allowed only a ninth-inning run.
Catcher William Contreras was named World Series MVP after batting .381 in the series.
A city celebrates
About 31,000 fans packed the Brewers’ home ballpark, American Family Field, to watch the game on the scoreboard some 1,200 miles away, MLB.com reported, while thousands more Milwaukee fans traveled to Florida for the series.
The Brewers won 11 postseason games and lost just two on their way to the title. Their win leaves four current franchises that have never won a World Series: the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays and Colorado Rockies.
