NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (TodayViralUSA) — The “No Kings” movement that has repeatedly filled American streets in opposition to President Donald Trump took a different approach on Saturday, staging more than 3,000 events nationwide aimed at getting people to the polls early, little more than two weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Billed as “No Kings: Vote Early,” the day was the movement’s fourth national mobilization since Trump returned to office, and organizers framed it as a nonpartisan exercise in voter participation rather than a traditional protest. Events ranged from marches to polling places and voter-information booths to music, food trucks and vehicle parades, according to USA Today and Agence France-Presse.
From rallies to ballot boxes
In downtown Phoenix, demonstrators marched to the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center to drop off completed ballots. In Atlanta, Black Voters Matter hosted a gathering before participants headed together to a polling site. About 1,200 people marched through downtown Salem, Oregon, where a local organizer urged voters to use official drop boxes rather than the mail. Two groups in Indianapolis marched to the governor’s residence, and a few hundred people rallied outside the elections office in Sarasota, Florida.
Organizers told USA Today they expected crowds to be smaller than at earlier No Kings days, which drew millions, and said the effect would be hard to judge until states release early-voting figures. Their stated aim is turnout high enough that it would be difficult for the administration to allege fraud.
“It’s so critical that people vote, that they vote early,” said Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, one of the partner groups. Deirdre Schifeling of the American Civil Liberties Union, another partner, described the day as “thousands of joyful celebrations of our right to vote.”
The White House dismissed the effort, telling USA Today earlier in the week that the organizers’ focus on voting showed there is no king and no authoritarian government.
Instagram account goes dark
The day was disrupted at about 1:30 p.m. Eastern time, when the coalition’s main Instagram account was taken down at the height of its national livestream. Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin said the account was offline for roughly 90 minutes, and that even after it reappeared, administrators remained locked out and unable to post.
In a statement issued later in the afternoon, the coalition said Meta had pulled the account and later acknowledged making a “bad call.” The company’s reasons for the takedown were not clear, and there was no evidence it was politically motivated. Critics including former Ambassador Norm Eisen demanded an explanation and full restoration of access.
Early voting is already under way across much of the country, with control of Congress at stake on Election Day.
