Prime Video’s ‘Fourth Wing’ Casts Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya as Violet and Xaden

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (TodayViralUSA) — Prime Video’s television adaptation of Fourth Wing has found its leads, with Esther McGregor set to play Violet Sorrengail and Emilio Sakraya cast as Xaden Riorson in the series based on Rebecca Yarros’ best-selling dragon-rider fantasy novels.

The casting was first reported by Deadline, citing sources close to the production, and was also reported by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Amazon declined to comment to Deadline.

The roles

In the books, 20-year-old Violet is preparing to become a scribe like her father when her mother, General Lilith Sorrengail, forces her to enter Basgiath War College, where hundreds of candidates compete to bond with dragons under the school’s single rule: graduate or die. Xaden, a brooding and powerful third-year cadet descended from a rebel family, begins as her enemy and becomes her love interest.

McGregor starred in Prime Video’s adaptation of E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars and appeared in the films Babygirl and Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door. She is currently filming Prime Video’s Life Is Strange, based on the video game, and is the daughter of actor Ewan McGregor.

Sakraya, a longtime favorite among fans for the role, recently finished work on the third season of Netflix’s One Piece, where he plays rebel leader Koza. His credits include Peacock’s Those About to Die and Netflix’s Warrior Nun and Tribes of Europa.

A franchise in the making

Amazon MGM Studios acquired television rights to Yarros’ Empyrean series in 2023 and formally ordered the show in May. Meredith Averill, co-creator of Locke & Key, is showrunner, and Lisa Joy will direct the premiere. Yarros is an executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and Jonathan Nolan and Joy’s Kilter Films.

The studio hopes to adapt the remaining books across multiple seasons if the first succeeds. Three novels have been published so far, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame in 2023 and Onyx Storm in 2025, with a fourth and fifth planned. No premiere date has been announced, and further casting is expected.
