The National Medal of Science, the United States’ highest honor for scientific achievement

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (TodayViralUSA) — President Donald Trump presented the nation’s highest science and technology honors to six industry leaders at the “Science: A New Golden Age” summit, awarding National Medals of Science to Elon Musk, Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang and Lisa Su and National Medals of Technology and Innovation to Michael Dell and Satya Nadella.

The White House said the medals recognize “exemplary achievement and leadership” that have strengthened U.S. technological leadership in computing, semiconductors, space systems and hyperscale infrastructure. The National Medal of Science has been conferred by presidents since 1963; the technology medal dates to 1985.

Who was honored — and for what

Musk was cited for engineering at “extraordinary ambition and scale” across space exploration, intelligent systems, communications and manufacturing. Brin was recognized for foundational algorithms that transformed how the world retrieves and processes information. Huang was honored for turning the graphics processing unit into a general-purpose computing architecture that powers scientific computing and advanced AI. Su was credited with semiconductor and chiplet innovations that helped enable the world’s first exascale supercomputer.

Dell was cited for expanding personal and enterprise computing and for building a global technology company. Nadella was recognized for rejuvenating Microsoft for the cloud era and for constructing hyperscale infrastructure used to train and deploy advanced AI systems.

Tied to a broader science agenda

White House science adviser Michael Kratsios said the medalists had “transformed their field or industry, laying the foundations for technologies we already can barely imagine living without.” The ceremony was part of a summit built around a July 2026 OSTP report that calls for stronger support for early-career scientists, ambitious national missions, new research funding models and AI-driven discovery through the administration’s Genesis Mission.

The awards came as the administration has also highlighted nuclear space power, lunar outpost plans and private-sector compute pledges aimed at accelerating U.S. scientific leadership. Critics have questioned celebrating corporate executives with medals historically associated with academic and research breakthroughs; the White House framed the choices as recognition that industry now drives much of frontier R&D.
