WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 8 (TodayViralUSA) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that he has offered the job of White House press secretary to Dana White, the chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, an unconventional pick for a post that has sat empty for more than three weeks.
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social from his Florida golf club. He added that he wanted White to bring UFC fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier and Amanda Nunes as “assistants” to “defend us against the Lunatic Left.”
White heads to Washington
White, who was in London for a boxing event, declined to discuss his conversations with the president but told reporters he would fly to Washington and meet Trump at the White House on Monday. “We have a meeting on Monday, so sure, I’ll have more to talk about after that,” he said, according to NBC News.
Signals about how seriously to take the offer were mixed. CBS News reported that White shared an image of himself at the briefing-room podium on Instagram with the caption “On to the next chapter,” and White House communications director Steven Cheung reposted the president’s message with “Hell yeah! Do it.” CNN, however, cited a source familiar with the matter as saying White had declined, and one aide described the post as a joke. The White House did not immediately confirm the offer.
A post Trump has struggled to fill
The press secretary’s job has been vacant since Oct. 16, when conservative commentator Katie Zacharia was removed after five days, the shortest tenure on record. She had succeeded Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down in August to spend more time with her family and has since joined Fox News as a contributor.
The search has taken on new urgency after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, with incoming Democratic majorities pledging to investigate the administration. The offer also follows a broader shake-up at the White House: on Friday, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles said she would step aside and Trump named longtime adviser Stephen Miller to replace her.
White, a longtime Trump ally who attended his inauguration, runs a promotion that CBS News said is valued at more than $15 billion. The White House hosted a UFC event on the South Lawn in July to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.
