TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Oct. 25 (TodayViralUSA) — Twelve people, six of them children, were injured Saturday night when gunfire broke out on a street beside Florida A&M University’s football stadium as crowds dispersed from the school’s homecoming game, police said.

Eleven of the victims were shot. The twelfth, the grandmother of one of the wounded, was hurt while running from the scene, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a news conference shortly after midnight. The youngest victim is 11 years old, and one of those wounded is a FAMU student. No one was killed.

“I stand before you tonight devastated,” Revell said.

What happened

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, steps from Bragg Memorial Stadium. FAMU had hosted Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its annual homecoming game, which began at 3 p.m. and ended around 6 p.m., according to WCTV.

Police said early findings show a physical fight broke out before shots were fired. Revell described it as an “isolated incident between two or three individuals,” not a random attack on the crowd.

Victims’ condition

By Sunday morning, five victims had been released from the hospital and six remained hospitalized, one of them in critical condition, the department said. Late Saturday, police had reported three victims with serious injuries and the rest in stable condition.

No arrests yet

No one has been arrested, and police said they have not identified a person of interest. Detectives from the department’s Violent Crimes Unit worked through the night reviewing digital evidence and were back on Perry Street on Sunday canvassing the area and collecting physical evidence.

The department has set up a dedicated tip line, 850-891-4610, and an online portal for people to upload photos and video. Tips can also be left anonymously with Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.

“We know there are people who saw something, heard something or may have video that could help us piece together exactly what happened,” Revell said in a Sunday statement. “No detail is too small, and no piece of information should go unreported.”

FAMU said the campus itself remained safe and asked people to stay away from the area while the investigation continues.
