WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 (TodayViralUSA) — More than 112,000 bottles of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Acetaminophen 500 mg caplets are under a voluntary nationwide recall after shoppers reported discolored tablets, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration enforcement report and statements from Amazon and the manufacturer.

Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc. of East Windsor, New Jersey, initiated the recall on Sept. 18. The FDA lists the action as ongoing. Amazon said it is coordinating the voluntary recall with the manufacturer (Aurohealth) and the agency.

Which bottles are included

The recall covers three bottle sizes sold through Amazon:

  • 200-count: 14,640 bottles — lot ACD125040A (expires Sept. 30, 2027)
  • 500-count: 90,456 bottles — lots ACD124036A and ACD124030A (Sept. 30, 2027); ACD124042A (Oct. 31, 2027); ACD124048B (Nov. 30, 2027); ACD125010A (Feb. 29, 2028)
  • 1,000-count: 7,836 bottles — lot ACD124048A (Nov. 30, 2027)

The products were manufactured in India and distributed by Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle. The FDA has not yet assigned a formal Class I, II or III risk classification to the recall.

What consumers should do

Amazon and consumer reports advise customers who have a matching lot to stop using the tablets and contact Amazon for a refund or replacement. No injuries or adverse events tied to the discoloration have been reported in coverage of the FDA listing. Amazon has said a health-hazard evaluation concluded the discoloration does not affect the medication’s safety or effectiveness, according to People magazine and other outlets citing the company — but regulators and retailers still urge consumers not to take tablets from the listed lots.

Anyone who has already taken the product and has health concerns should contact a clinician or pharmacist. Lot numbers and expiration dates are printed on the bottle label.
