Russian Strikes Force Partial Closure of Three Kyiv Bridges

Overnight Russian drone attacks led Kyiv to partly shut three Dnipro River bridges, snarled traffic, and killed one resident, as Ukraine weighed limited truce proposals covering energy and Black Sea shipping.

KYIV, Oct. 2 (TodayViralUSA) — Russian drone and missile attacks forced the partial closure of three bridges over the Dnipro River in Ukraine’s capital on Friday, city officials said, producing long traffic backups in what authorities described as a shift toward disrupting daily movement across the city.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s office said three of Kyiv’s six road bridges were fully or partly closed after overnight strikes. The closures snarled commuting routes that normally carry heavy volumes of cars, buses and commercial traffic between the city’s left and right banks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 100 drones overnight against Kyiv and eight other regions. Nearly half were jet-powered models that are harder for air defenses to intercept, he said. A drone strike on a high-rise apartment building in Kyiv killed one person, according to Zelenskyy, and at least four people were reported wounded elsewhere.

The Associated Press reported that the bridge closures appeared to mark a new tactic after months in which Russian forces have struck apartment blocks, warehouses, fuel sites and data centers. Fighting along the roughly 1,250-kilometer front remains largely deadlocked more than four and a half years after Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Truce ideas and battlefield pressure

Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, said Kyiv has received separate proposals for a limited pause from the United States, India, Turkey and Egypt. The ideas focus on halting attacks on energy infrastructure — which have cut power in Ukraine and strained fuel supplies in Russia — and on protecting Black Sea shipping used to move grain and other farm exports.

Sybiha said Ukraine would accept paired ceasefires covering energy targets and Black Sea cargo routes, but not one without the other. He reiterated Kyiv’s offer of an unconditional front-line ceasefire; Moscow has rejected temporary truces in favor of a broader political settlement on its terms.

The Institute for the Study of War, in a report cited by the AP, said Russian forces lost control of nearly 300 square kilometers between March and September and suffered more than 46,000 casualties in September, the highest monthly total this year in the think tank’s accounting. Ukrainian casualty figures were not disclosed in that summary.

Zelenskyy again urged partners to close gaps in sanctions that he said allow Russia to obtain foreign components for drones and missiles. “Every Russian drone can actually be stopped right at the production line,” he wrote on social media.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses downed 646 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian regions, occupied Crimea and adjacent seas. Officials in Russia’s Volgograd region said one person was wounded in an attack on industrial infrastructure.

Sybiha also said Ukraine is seeking about 300 Patriot interceptor missiles, citing intelligence estimates that Russia holds roughly 600 ballistic missiles in reserve and can produce up to 140 a month. Patriot batteries remain scarce because of competing demand linked to the Iran war.

For residents of Kyiv, the immediate effect was more practical: jammed approaches to the river crossings, longer trips to work and fresh reminders that the aerial campaign can reshape ordinary routines without a major change on the front line.
